The participants of the conference „Militarism and Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean“ demand the end of the blockade and sanctions against Cuba, Venezuela and other progressive governments in Latin America and the Caribbean:

• We again and strongly call for the end of the blockade and sanctions against Cuba and Venezuela because they are blatant violations of international and trade law. They violate the fundamental human rights of several million citizens in the region. We condemn the U.S. government’s ignoring of all U.N. General Assembly resolutions against sanctions on Cuba over the past 29 years, which overwhelmingly call for an end to the blockade. Blockades and sanctions violate the dignity and sovereignty of peoples – especially Cuba’s. They are important tools of the U.S. and NATO to impose their imperialist will on sovereign governments and peoples through the means of hunger, isolation, desperation, blackmail and pressure.
• We raise our voices to condemn the ongoing unconventional war, destabilizing and subversive campaigns that the U.S. government is unleashing against the Cuban and Venezuelan people, their socialist and progressive projects, and against other progressive governments in the region.
• We demand the immediate return to Cuba of the illegally occupied territory with the U.S. military base in Guantanamo, as well as the elimination of the more than 80 U.S. military bases in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

We will continue our opposition to any form of blockade and sanctions policy. Because we know: freedom from sanctions and subversion and the right to self-determination of the countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are an important part of the global struggle for justice and peace.
